About Us

Hi, we're Periodt!

We're building a truly private period and symptom tracker. But to trust us, it's only natural to want to know a bit about who we are.

Julia Wisniewska

My rambling about how awful the privacy features and period predictions in current period tracker apps are is part of what led us to develop Periodt. I’m currently studying Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Cambridge, and hoping to move forward into a career in Neuroscience. It hasn't been easy, especially when juggling my workload with my health. Regardless, I've been trying to put work into Periodt wherever and whenever I can.

Hearing the negative experiences that my friends had when speaking to healthcare professionals about period related issues made me apprehensive to seek help. They found it difficult to get their doctors to listen to their symptoms, and were often brushed off being told that their pain was normal, when further investigations showed that was certainly not the case. Through my own journey navigating the UK's NHS pathways for suspected endometriosis, it became clear to me that we need more support readily available for people who menstruate. As my friends did, I found that trying to advocate for yourself in medical environments is very difficult, especially in the midst of having health problems.

Due to these issues, I wanted to make sure that Periodt included symptom tracking that let you know if any patterns were concerning, and advice for speaking to healthcare professionals. I hope that Periodt helps make challenging healthcare situations a little bit easier to help anyone advocating for themselves during difficultdoctors appointments.

My key responsibilities at Periodt include reading and organising research, writing most of the blogs and handling the social media accounts.

Helping my partner through her menstrual health problems and seeing her struggle with getting adequate any medical support is really where my interest in developing Periodt comes from. I hope that Periodt provides a safe environment for people of all ages to learn, track their symptoms and feel secure in the safety of their personal information.

After learning about the privacy issues in existing period trackers and the horrific consequences that many people have faced, I've become increasingly interested in building a period tracker that is truly private in a way that cannot change.

At Periodt, I handle the technical side. I've created the actual app itself, and will be making blogs to teach you how it all works. At times I also get bullied by Julia into giving the social media marketing a try.

I really hope that through Periodt, we can not only help people who menstruate, but increase awareness of the importance of data privacy especially with health data.
